Sudbury Cedar Fence Company began in 1982 when Paul Brown taught woodworking to his students at Clearway School in Newton, MA, where he made outdoor cedar furniture. At a local craft fair, Paul and his wife, Cheryl, were asked by a customer to repair his cedar fence. This led Cheryl to visit the library to research fence installation, and what started as a small project quickly evolved into a trusted local fence business. Their inspiring journey was featured in an article entitled “Green Industry Stories: Paul Brown of Sudbury Cedar Fence Co.” The success was thanks to Paul’s craftsmanship and Cheryl’s business expertise.
Their three children grew up helping out and learning the values of a family-run business. Their son, Rich, joined the company in 2003, starting out by digging holes. A skilled tradesman and dedicated worker, Rich now manages the operations while upholding the company’s core principles of hard work and integrity.
Initially focused on cedar wood fences, we have expanded our offerings to include vinyl, aluminum, and chain link fences. As a local business, we take pride in serving Sudbury and the surrounding communities with honest service and quality workmanship.
Whether you need privacy, safety, or simply a better-looking yard, we are here to help bring your fencing vision to life. Please visit our fence galleries to see examples of our work.”

It’s simple: deliver what we promise and be easy to work with. What we promise is beautiful, long-lasting fencing delivered with you in mind. We want you to love your fence and be completely satisfied with every aspect of it, start to finish.
At Sudbury Cedar Fence Company, being family-owned means more than building beautiful fences-it means showing up for the people and organizations that make our community special.
In 2021, we were proud to support All Out Adventures, a nonprofit organization dedicated to inclusive outdoor recreation. Our donation funded a new, taller kicksled, they named the “Sudbury Seater”, allowing more participants to comfortably and safely enjoy winter programs.
Seeing the equipment in action, and the joy it brings, is a reminder of why giving back matters. We’re grateful to support organizations that help everyone enjoy the outdoors.
